* Exchange rates are as of June 12th, 2013. Exchange rates can change without advance notice. The effective exchange rates for each transaction are the exchange rates on the day FedEx receives the packages. Press clippings and websites other than iPodMeister might contain outdated exchange rates. Club CDs (BMG, Columbia) and cut outs/scratch outs count as half. Penny CDs don't count towards total. Please reference Eligible CDs for further explanations on Club CDs, Cut Outs, and Penny CDs.

** Digitizing –sometimes also referred to as "ripping"- is the conversion of the tracks on a music CD to digital format. We will provide these digital files on DVDs. We do not load any music onto any device.

*** Because smartphones (and some tablets) require activation and registration at the time of purchase we will send you a check for the price of the smartphone/tablet for new subscribers as stated on the website of the service provider. The checks are regular corporate checks made out to the customer that should be cashed by depositing them into an U.S. bank account. We do not offer unlocked smartphones.

**** iPodMeister is an innovative recycling company with superior mom-'n-pop-customer service. We are neither endorsed by nor affiliated with Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Nobles, Research in Motion or any other manufacturer.
What kind of CDs
do we accept?
Your CDs and DVDs need to meet the following criteria:
  • The CD was bought in a regular retail store.
  • No visible scratches or marks on the actual CD.
  • Original jewel case (dusty and scratched jewel cases are okay).
  • Complete cover art, i.e. the booklet in front of the jewel case and the playlist in the back of the jewel case have to be in mint condition.
  • We do not need a list with titles.
  • We do not accept bootlegs, bulk lots, liquidation ware, or CDs in case logic binders.

Prices for CDs have declined since the introduction of the iPod and prices for DVDs have deteriorated since the introduction of Blu-ray. Unfortunately, the percentage of so-called "penny CDs" in the average lot we buy has tripled since April 2011. "Penny CDs" are CDs that have a market value in the single pennies for used items. The number of titles that are now "penny CDs" has increased so much for several reasons, all being related to steps taken by Amazon.

Around April 2011, Amazon started phasing in a new user interface which highlights all kinds of digital products (for example e-books for the Kindle, mp3 files from the Amazon cloud). The new Amazon interface steers customers away from physical products such as CDs and DVDs. This has led to a decline in sales of used media and this decline has caused some of the remaining sellers to set the prices for many titles to $0.01.

Over the last 12 months, Amazon has also merged its international sites in Europe into one cross platform selling tool which creates one market with one price level in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Spain. Previously we sold large amounts of the CDs acquired by us to stores and collectors in some of these countries. Unfortunately these sales channels have dried up since record stores in Europe see no reason to buy in bulk from us when they can order individual titles for pennies on Amazon Europe.

The bottom line for sellers of individual collections like you is that a) many more items are now worth merely pennies and b) we have less options to resell your items overseas. This forces us to pay less for items at the bottom of the pricing pyramid while we continue to pay high prices for items that are less common and still in demand. We don't expect you to research the price history of penny CD's in your collection. We will provide you with a count and a list of titles that are Penny CDs after receiving your items by e-mail. That way you can check yourself what these items are worth.

Let's face it: CDs and DVDs are on the way out. You have made the right decision to sell your collection at this point. If you would wait another year your collection would be worth much less.
What if I don't have
enough CDs?
If you have less CDs than required you can make up for each missing CD by paying $1.
You can replace up to a maximum of 50 missing CDs by paying $1 each by check.
The check should be made out to "iPodMeister".
Place the check in a large envelope and place the envelope in one of the boxes with your CDs.
What if I have more CDs
than required?
If you have more CDs than required please include them with your shipment. We will buy them from you. On average, we pay between $0.50 and $2.50 per additional CD. We will include a check for these additional CDs together with your device.
