What is digitizing?

Digitizing –also called “ripping,” “loading” or “downloading”- is the conversion of a music CD into a file format that can be played on the iPod.

Digitizing includes artist name, album title, track title, track length, i.e. the so-called “meta data”.

Digitizing is often chosen by people with a large number of older out-of-print titles that are not available in the iTunes store, for example old Jazz- or classical albums from defunct labels. Most of our customers do not need digitizing. They just give us their CDS and get a new iPod.

If you opt for the exchange without digitizing you will send us your CDs and we will send you an iPod.

If you opt for digitizing you will get the iPod plus a set of back-up DVDs.

How many CDs will fit on my iPod?

The compression format is a trade-off between audio quality and disk space:

The better the quality the more space one album requires.

The more space one album requires the lower the total number of CDs that fit onto the iPod.

We recommend a compression rate of 256 kbps but also offer 320 kbps.

We do not offer any lossless formats such as AIFF.

How do I get my music onto the iPod?

If you opt for digitzing you will get a complete set of back-up DVDs of your music.

That way you get an additional back-up copy of your music in case you lose the iPod.

And you can be sure that the iPod is new because it is unopened.

Insert the DVDs into the DVD drive of your computer.

Connect the iPod through its cable to the USB port of your computer.

Use iTunes to manage and move your files.

What is iTunes?

iTunes is a free software from Apple that can be downloaded for free from Apple (iTunes Free Download). iTunes will show you all necessary information about the albums in your collection such as artist name, track titles, playing time, etc. .

You can move individual tracks or albums from the DVDs onto the iPod or change what you listen to on your iPod.

Will I lose my music because not all albums will fit onto the iPod?

Some smaller iPods might not hold all the albums you have sent us. By using iTunes and the back-up DVDs you can always decide which tracks you want to access on an iPod with limited storage capacity.
