1960s, my uncle made a good living buying up slightly imperfect Levis and
reselling them at a steep discount in poor countries. That
business model is being followed today by iPodMeister. The company, based in
New York, takes your used CDs and DVDs, sends them off to poorer countries
where people can’t afford MP3 players, and gives you a new iPod, iPhone and
now iPad in return. All genres
of discs are accepted, with certain limitations. No porn, no scratched discs,
no promotional discs, and 20 copies of your garage band’s CD are verboten. The album
cover art plus the CD folder must be intact and in good shape. Promotional
compilation discs, such as “Macy’s Favorite Christmas Songs” are not taken.
Blu-ray discs get you double credit, and each disc of a multi-disc collection
are counted. Shipping of the discs to iPodMeister is free. |
How
many CDs or DVDs costs a new iPod/iPhone/iPad?
* Exchange
rates are as of June 9th, 2010. Exchange rates change periodically -on average
four times a year and usually immediately after new Apple product
announcements- without advance notice. Customers do not have to be afraid
that we change the exchange rates after their CDs have been mailed. The
effective exchange rates for each transaction are the exchange rates on the
day FedEx receives the packages (which is not necessarily the day when the
customer receives the FedEx labels from iPodMeister). Press clippings and
websites other than iPodMeister might contain outdated exchange rates. **
Digitizing –sometimes also referred to as “ripping”- is the conversion of the
tracks on a music CD to mp3 files. We will provide these mp3 files on DVDs.
We won’t load any music onto the iPod. ***
Because the iPhones require activation and registration at the time of
purchase we will send you a check for the price of the iPhone for new
subscribers as stated on the Apple website.
The checks
are regular corporate checks made out to the customer that should be cashed
by depositing them into an U.S. bank account. The checks are not vouchers for
the purchase of an iPhone only or Apple gift cards. Non-US customers in
Canada, the U.K. and continental Europe can request an international postal
money order. We do not offer unlocked iPhones. |

What kind of CDs do we accept? |
Answer the following three questions to see whether your CD’s are
eligible: a) Did you buy your CDs/DVDs individually one-by-one in a record- or video
store or online? b) Are the CDs in their original cases with complete front and back
cover art (dusty or broken cases are okay) c) Are the CDs/DVDs without visible scratches if you hold them
approximately twelve inches from your face? If you answered “yes” to all these questions we will most likely accept
your CDs. Your CDs and DVDs need to meet the following criteria: ·
The CD was bought in a regular retail store. ·
Original jewel case (dusty and scratched jewel
cases are okay). ·
Complete cover art, i.e. the booklet in front of
the jewel case and the play list in the back of the jewel case have to be in
mint condition. ·
No visible scratches or marks on the actual CD. ·
We do NOT need a list with titles. We do not accept bootlegs, bulk lots, liquidation ware, or CDs in case
